I don’t really know how much Pantech pays the people from its Design Community, but they seem to be pretty satisfied employees, because they keep on doing a great job and designing mobile phones that look absolutely awesome.
And aside from that, almost every week or two, another phone is released. They’ve won awards, and people’s admiration and now they’re announcing another phone, the IM-U170. The phone’s design is pretty simple and maybe that’s why it looks so nice. Several features are packed in the phone’s metal case, including a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus (obvious flaw, it’s not 5 mpx or more :P) as well as a VGA camera for video calling, a 2.2 inch 260k color screen with a QVGA resolution, Mp3 support and 120MB internal memory.
Also, this is the first mobile phone to provide face recognition technology. Apparently “The built-in camera traces the movement of the user's face to use for input instead of controllers. Users can have their real-time faces while playing games with the IM-U170.” While I don’t really understand how this works (call me ignorant if you want), I must admit that it sounds pretty exciting.
Those who think that size actually matters should also know that the phone measures 96.5 x 48 x 15.4 mm and weighs 106 grams. In the end, it’s just sad that only people from Asia will get to play with this great phone and I wish they’d finally decide to share the mobile phones they have with us people stuck here in Europe or other parts of the world.
